Go Neighborhoods Has ExpandedJuly 30, 2018 | By Patti
Dear Community Partner:
It is with great excitement that I would like to share some news about our GO (Great Opportunities) Neighborhoods Initiative.
As you may know, LISC’s GO Neighborhoods network is growing to scale impact across Houston’s underserved communities. Over the past two years, LISC rolled out several changes to strengthen and expand the initiative.
We introduced three levels of investment, to offer a range of supports to neighborhoods. These resources vary from a light touch, to clustering of real estate or Financial Opportunity Centers® investments, to funding a Convening Agency to carry out a major planning process and hire a full time position. The three new levels of GO Neighborhoods investment are Connected, Collaborative and Comprehensive.
We also took steps to identify and add four new neighborhoods to join the GO Neighborhoods network. The new partner communities join Alief, Denver Harbor, Gulfton, Independence Heights, Magnolia Park, Near Northside, OST/South Union, Sunnyside and Third Ward as partner neighborhoods. Our GO Neighborhoods footprint now impacts thirteen communities, seen in the map below.
I am pleased to announce that LISC has added the following four neighborhoods to our network:
- Acres Homes
- Fifth Ward
- Kashmere/Trinity/Houston Gardens
During this cycle of expansion, LISC will also move one neighborhood to our highest level of investment. A Selection Committee is helping determine a final candidate to fill the slot, which will be announced in early Fall 2018. The two neighborhoods currently at a Comprehensive level of investment are Near Northside and OST/South Union.
Thank you for all your support for GO Neighborhoods, which celebrates its ten year anniversary in 2019.
Your partnership allows LISC to realize its mission to forge resilient and inclusive communities of opportunity – great places to live, work, visit, do business and raise families.
