Where Great Opportunities Grow!

Now Recruiting Leaders

April 18, 2018 | By Patti

We have a special leadership opportunity for your neighborhood. As part of our GO (Great Opportunities) Neighborhoods Initiative, Houston LISC offers leadership development workshops for resident leaders, organizational representatives and other community stakeholders. These trainings build important leadership capacity to transform communities.

The 2018 training cycle will focus on solutions to improve health and equity. Many communities have high rates of disease and lack an overall sense of wellness. Sessions will explore the root causes and how to create environments where all residents can be healthy and safe.

We are recruiting neighborhood teams to participate in our 2018 cycle of the Training 4 Trainers (T4T) program. A neighborhood team should include up to 5-7 members and be a mix of about 4-5 residents and 1-2 staff from a non-profit or business in your neighborhood. Individuals not affiliated with a team are also encouraged to apply.

Training Topics Include

Facilitating Great Meetings

Using Data for Community Initiatives

Community Health & Equitable Opportunity

Employing Shared Leadership

Community Power & Resolving Conflict

Asset Mapping Your Neighborhood Strengths

Best Practices for Engaging Community

Planning, Implementing & Evaluating Community Projects

T4T is for emerging and seasoned leaders, residents who have been involved in community building OR individuals who work for an organization that supports community development. T4T participants must be able to attend 6 monthly learning sessions, and commit to teaching other leaders after they graduate the program. See the program flyer  for more information.

We have a limited amount of seats, and would like to extend the opportunity for you to nominate candidates you think would be a good fit to serve on a team. This flyer gives more information about the program, meeting times, and expectations. Please share it with any potential nominees.

Applications to the program are due May 5th, and can be submitted electronically by completing the application HERE. Please share this link and flyer with those individuals you wish to nominate.

Candidates will be interviewed and selected by end of May for a program start date of June 30th.

Please contact Iris Gonzalez  at igonzalez@lisc.org or 713-597-6837 with questions about the T4T program or how to nominate a team or individual.

Thank you for spreading the word!
